
.... it appears that the booby trap exploits of the Royal Engineers during WWII are catching up with the local airfields of the south of England once again, 60 years after they put explosives under the runways of air stations to upset zee Germans if they ever did succesfully invade these shores.
So, all this week, several very carefully operated diggers will be picking their way through the soil around the edges of the main runway at Thruxton whilst new lights are installed, any signs of (supposedly inert!?) explosives are carefully marked with a little red flag!

Photograph (right) shows a controlled explosion carried out at Lee on Solent to similar devices found in 2006 which had to be removed as a building programme started on the site.
